The people have spoken: Sugar Sammy is the most popular comic in Quebec. He nabbed the two top prizes at Le Gala Les Olivier – despite the fact that the awards are intended to honour only French comedy in the province. But they couldn't stop regular people from pissing their pantalons with Sucre's bilingue You're Gonna Rire, and the public voted and he won the Olivier de l'année. The industry voted his show the Olivier for spectacle de l'année. So once again, Sugar Sammy is building bridges where some would have no bridges built. Good on him. He will be performing You're Gonna Rire on May 24 and 25 and from Dec. 18 to21 at L'Olympia. Tickets range from $37.69 to $57.69 and are available at Admission.com, or by calling 1-855-790-1245.

Few people on this planet crack me up as much as Pete Zedlacher. And he's Canadian, from Wawa, Ont. Which, in a sense, explains a lot about his feelings about the not always so great – okay – cursed Canada goose. There is a mammoth Canada goose statue in Wawa. Zedlacher, a Just for Laughs fest fave, has to do the most hysterical goose routine of all – with sound effects. But he'll also have crowds convulsing with his interpretation of Hannibal Lecter as a Newfoundlander and his homage to eggnog – or as he calls it a “booze milkshake” or a “big glass of cake.” Zedlacher's Comedy Now special for the Comedy Network scored the second-highest ratings in series history. Opening for Zedlacher is the divine DeeAnne Smith – fresh back from Australia – and Sebasdtien Bourgault's Language Police video co-star Derek Seguin. Call 514-932-6378.

A double Toronto bill is on tap at the Comedyworks (1238 Bishop St.), Thursday to Saturday. Sharing the spotlight are Steph Tolev and Alex Nussbaum. Tolev is a stand-up and sketch comic and one-half of the acclaimed Ladystache duo which made a splash first time out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and which won XM Radio's first-ever Sketch Off Award. As a solo artiste, Tolev has made waves on MuchMusic's Video on Trial and MTV's Losing It. Nussbaum is no slouch, either. A Canadian Comedy Award nominee for best male comic, he has been seen on the Comedy Network's Comedy Now and his act was selected as Best Comedy Show of the Year by Toronto's Now magazine. He has also provided the pipes for a slew of voices for MGM's Pink Panther and Pals on the Comedy Network. The stays open Sunday for a couple of ex-pat Montrealers: Patrick Hakeem and Ali Hassan, the latter not just a fine cook but also the panelist on the George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight show on CBC-TV. Also on the bill will be Mark DeBonis, the 2011 Great Canadian Laugh-Off winner and 2010 Canadian Comedy Award winner; Alex Pavone, a comedy panelist on MTV's Cocktales and fast up-and-comer.
