Sugar Sammy : 4 shows in 4 days in 4 languages
The Côte-des-Neiges-born citizen of the world has regularly done comedy in his four native languages but this coming March 27-30, 2013 marks a week full of Sugar Sammy, showcasing his multiculturalism the only way he knows how – with a series of shows. One French-only show, one English-only show called the “Illegal English Edition – The show that the government doesn't want you to see”, one French-English bilingual show (You're Gonna Rire) and, in another world premiere – a never-before-seen quadrilingual English/French/Punjabi/Hindi show. In an interesting spin, Sugar Sammy's fans get a glimpse into the comedian's world, tasting the four cultures that he considers his identity. Bilingualism may be something that Quebecers struggle with but to Sugar Sammy, that is less than the minimum requirement to be a part of his world, where four languages and cultures compete and collide.
“I've been lucky enough to travel around the world doing comedy and I've seen how the show travels and plays to Quebecois, Americans, South Africans, Italians, Greeks, Haitians, etc. Now's my chance to show that to the fans in Montreal, which is made up of so many great and different cultures. And there's no discrimination in my show – I'll unreasonably accommodate everybody!”
